Billionaire cargo of illegal cigarettes seized by DOF in Japorã
Military police officers from the DOF (Department of Border Operations) seized, early this morning, a truck with a semi-trailer loaded with 45,000 packages of cigarettes smuggled from Paraguay.
The military were carrying out ostensive patrols for surveillance on the MS-299 highway, in the rural area of Japorã, when they gave the order to stop the driver of the truck, which had Paraguayan plates. The order was disobeyed and the man abandoned the vehicle a few miles ahead and was not located.
When the police proceeded to check the aggregates, they found that the Volvo FH 440 had been stolen in Curitiba (PR), on May 14th 2023. The semi-trailer had been stolen in Imbituva (PR) two days earlier.
The seized cargo of cigarettes and vehicle, valued at 2.6 million reais, were delivered to the Federal Revenue Service in Mundo Novo.
The action involving DOF police officers took place as part of Operation Horus, a partnership between the State Secretariat of Justice and Public Safety and the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety.
