Customs Seizes Illegal Cargo Valued at R$ 250,000 at a Hotel in Foz do Iguaçu

An inspection in Vila Portes uncovered about 500 vials of weight-loss medication, as well as cell phones and perfumes. No one was arrested

A routine inspection by Customs led to the seizure of a shipment of goods suspected of being contraband and smuggled goods at a hotel in the Vila Portes area of Foz do Iguaçu, in western Paraná. The operation took place on Wednesday (28), around 5:00 p.m., and resulted in the seizure of products valued at approximately R$ 250,000.

During the inspection, officials located approximately 500 vials of weight-loss medications, as well as cell phones and perfumes. According to Customs, part of the goods was destined for the state of São Paulo.

The products were seized for legal proceedings. Despite the quantity and estimated value of the shipment, no one was arrested during the operation.

Case to be referred to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office

According to Customs, a criminal complaint will be filed with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) for appropriate action.

The seizure of the goods took place as part of inspection operations conducted at hotels in the Vila Portes region, an area of Foz do Iguaçu that receives a heavy flow of visitors and is located near the border with Paraguay.

Combating Illegal Trade

In a statement, Customs emphasized that actions of this type are part of the effort to combat smuggling, embezzlement, and the circulation of illegal goods.

According to the agency, these inspections aim to protect the national economy, defend consumers, and reduce the losses caused to the formal sector. The initiative also seeks to prevent unregulated goods from reaching the market, especially when they may pose risks to public health.

The presence of weight-loss drugs among the seized products highlights the importance of controlling the circulation of such items, given the potential risks associated with the use of products of irregular origin.

Customs emphasizes that enforcement operations contribute to public safety and to the prevention of economic, health, and environmental harm.
