Piracy in the spotlight: Operation seizes more than 1,000 counterfeit products in Tubarão

Inspectors found counterfeit T-shirts, shoes, hats, and sunglasses valued at approximately R$50,000

An anti-piracy operation carried out by Procon in Tubarão, with support from the Municipal Police, seized 1,187 products suspected of being counterfeit at a store located in the city center on Thursday (30). Among the items seized were T-shirts, sunglasses, caps, sneakers, and other accessories, initially valued at approximately R$50,000. The store owner was fined, and the merchandise will remain in the custody of the Civil Police for destruction.

The inspection was triggered by a complaint filed with Procon. During the inspection, which included the participation of official representatives from various brands, inspectors confirmed the sale of counterfeit products and seized the merchandise. According to the agency, this is not the first time the store has been the target of an inspection. The case will be incorporated into the existing administrative proceeding stemming from a similar operation conducted at the same establishment in 2025.

The manager of Procon in Tubarão, Murilo Goulart, emphasized that the fight against counterfeiting aims to protect consumers and merchants who operate legally. “Buying counterfeit products isn’t a savings, it’s a risk to your health, your wallet, and honest business in Tubarão. And Procon will continue to conduct inspections,” he stated.

Procon advises consumers to report suspected irregularities related to the origin or quality of products sold in the municipality through the agency’s official channels.
