Fiscal Impact of Piracy is the Subject of a Hearing This Tuesday
Anti-Piracy Forum Estimates Losses of About R$ 473.2 Billion in 2025

The Chamber of Deputies’ external commission on piracy is holding a new debate this Tuesday (14), at 3:00 p.m., in Plenary Room 9.
The meeting was requested by Representative Júlio Lopes (PP-RJ). According to the representative, piracy and smuggling cause growing tax losses and affect various sectors of the economy.
Billions in Losses
Data from the National Forum Against Piracy and Illegality indicate that the illegal market caused losses of approximately R$ 473.2 billion to the Brazilian economy in 2025, of which R$ 146.8 billion correspond to direct tax evasion.
Júlio Lopes explains that this illegal activity takes various forms, such as underreporting customs values, tax fraud, selling goods without invoices, and counterfeiting tax stamps.
