Civil Police Seizes More Than 8,500 Counterfeit Products in Salvador and Lauro de Freitas
An operation by the Civil Police (PC-BA) uncovered more than 8,500 products suspected of being counterfeit at retail establishments in Salvador and Lauro de Freitas. Operation Marca Segura took place this Wednesday (23) and also aims to investigate possible irregularities that could affect consumers. Some of the seized items include perfumes, lotions, moisturizers, and other cosmetics.
Therefore, in addition to suspected trademark infringement, the investigation will examine the origin, composition, and compliance of the products. The teams also found clothing and other items bearing national and international brand names. The products were found in three establishments inspected during the operation.
In a single store in Salvador alone, the total number of items reached 5,748. At another location, in Lauro de Freitas, more than 2,600 products were seized. The operation was triggered by criminal complaints filed by representatives of various brands, who reported the possible sale and storage of counterfeit goods.
Those responsible for the establishments were taken to the Consumer Protection Police Station (Decon) to provide explanations. The investigation is examining possible crimes against industrial property rights, consumer relations, and public health. The operation brought together teams from Decon, Procon, Codecon of Salvador, and Sefaz-BA.
