ABIHPEC and INPI Partner to Strengthen Innovation and Combat Counterfeiting in the Beauty and Personal Care Sector

Initially valid for 12 months, the agreement was signed during a workshop held at the association’s headquarters

ABIHPEC (Brazilian Association of the Personal Hygiene, Fragrance, and Cosmetics Industry) and INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) have established a strategic and unprecedented partnership focused on the Beauty and Personal Care sector. The initiative aims to strengthen the industry’s innovation agenda by expanding companies’ access to information, guidance, and protection tools for trademarks, patents, and industrial designs.

In addition to stimulating technological and market growth, the partnership will actively work to prevent and combat trademark counterfeiting within the sector. This agreement was signed to operate on a national scale, consolidating the institutional relationship between the organizations.

ABIHPEC President Luiz Carlos Dutra highlighted the measure’s impact on the sector: “This cooperation is essential for driving market development guided by innovation, ensuring that the Beauty and Personal Care sector continues to grow safely, with broad support for the legal protection of its creations and brands.”

The project also aims to promote a culture of innovation in Brazil—which currently ranks as the fourth-largest country in terms of annual product launches in this sector—and to encourage the registration of intangible assets, thereby directly supporting the development of more competitive and innovative businesses in the market. “The partnership with ABIHPEC allows us to publicize the initiatives already available at the INPI, aimed at reducing examination times—such as the priority processing procedure, for example—and to promote a culture of industrial property, encouraging innovation and combating piracy more effectively,” stated INPI President Júlio César Castelo Branco Reis Moreira.

Initially valid for 12 months, the agreement signed during a workshop held at ABIHPEC consolidates a joint effort to build a safer, more ethical market that is conducive to technological advancement. By joining forces, the two entities protect companies’ intellectual property while paving the way for the sustainable, robust, and competitive growth of Brazil’s beauty and personal care industry.
