Enforcement activities – Military Police seize shipment of goods in Pomerode following tip-off from the Federal Revenue Service
The Military Police provided further information about the seizure of illegal goods carried out on Sunday morning, the 7th, at around 11:40 a.m., in Pomerode.
Initially, reports indicated that cell phones had been seized, but the Military Police operation resulted in the seizure of various products of illegal origin. The case was registered as smuggling, following a complaint filed by the Federal Revenue Service.
During a routine patrol, the garrison received information via COPOM about a vehicle coming from Rio dos Cedros, suspected of transporting contraband or smuggled goods. Shortly thereafter, the car—a white VW/Gol—was spotted traveling on Highway SC-110 and was eventually stopped at the corner of Avenida 21 de Janeiro.
There were three people in the car: the driver and two female passengers. During a personal search, nothing illegal was found on the occupants. However, during a vehicle inspection, police officers found cell phones, perfumes, electronic cigarettes, and tires, all without tax documentation. The driver claimed ownership of the items, stating that he had purchased them in Paraguay. The passengers reported that they had no involvement with the cargo.
Given the situation and its similarity to previous incidents in the region, the case was classified as smuggling. Following Federal Police guidelines, the vehicle and all products were seized and taken to the Pomerode Military Police Station, where they will remain until they are collected by the Federal Revenue Service, which is responsible for continuing the legal proceedings.
In its report, the Military Police highlighted the importance of integrated action in combating smuggling and embezzlement, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining surveillance on access roads and border areas to curb this type of crime.
