Game Over: Federal Revenue seizes counterfeit and smuggled toys in stores in Salvador

The operation, which took place due to the child’s month, had the support of the Consumer Defense Police.

Counterfeit and smuggled toys, which were sold in establishments in Salvador, were seized by the Federal Revenue, Surveillance and Repression department. The action is the result of Operation Game Over, which has the participation of the Consumer Protection Police, and fulfilled the simultaneous orders this Monday (4).

Counterfeit products were identified through inspection, based on risk analysis techniques and due diligence in the establishments. According to the Federal Revenue, toys are withdrawn from the market not only to avoid unfair competition with establishments that sell original products and collect the taxes due, but also as a consumer protection mechanism, as they are purchased as if they were original and they can even cause harm to health and the environment.

For example, toys not certified with the Inmetro seal may loosen small pieces, can cause suffocation and cut with pointed pieces or sharp edges”, says the Revenue, through a note.

Apart from that, he adds, some producing countries use lead-based paint, which is a carcinogen. “The counterfeit batteries are more prone to leakage and can even explode. The Internal Revenue Service prevents with these actions the consumption of counterfeit toys that can harm children’s health.”

Once the irregularities of the seized products are confirmed, the Revenue will apply the penalty of confiscation. Counterfeit goods will be destroyed.
