Customs Seizes R$ 1.5 Million in Goods and Weight-Loss Drugs Hidden on Buses in the Foz do Iguaçu Region

Two buses carrying R$ 1.5 million in contraband goods, including weight-loss drugs, were intercepted in Foz do Iguaçu. The joint operation by Customs and the Federal Highway Police resulted in the seizure of the vehicles and their cargo.

Two buses loaded with foreign goods lacking proof of legal importation were intercepted during inspection operations on Saturday night (31) in the Foz do Iguaçu region, in western Paraná. Among the seized products were weight-loss medications and various items brought in from Paraguay. The estimated value of the cargo totals R$1.5 million.

The stops took place during separate operations by Customs, with support from the Municipal Guard and the Federal Highway Police (PRF). Both buses were headed for the state of São Paulo and were carrying a total of 69 passengers.

Bus Carrying R$800,000 in Goods Stopped at a Hotel

The first inspection took place at a hotel located in downtown Foz do Iguaçu, following a joint operation between the Federal Revenue Service and the Municipal Guard.

At the scene, agents found a bus carrying 28 passengers and a large quantity of goods of Paraguayan origin distributed throughout the vehicle.

The products were stored under the seats, on the floor of the lower compartment, and in the luggage compartments.

During the inspection, it was also found that the bus did not have a travel authorization issued by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

Given these irregularities, the bus was taken to the Federal Revenue Service Customs Office in Foz do Iguaçu for impoundment and administrative proceedings.

The cargo was preliminarily valued at R$ 800,000.

Weight-loss products were hidden in the bathroom and under the seats

The second incident was reported during an inspection conducted by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and Customs at the Santa Terezinha de Itaipu police station.

The bus was carrying 41 passengers and was also headed to São Paulo.

After being stopped, the vehicle was taken to Customs, where officials found several compartments used to hide goods.

During the sealing procedure, foreign products and a significant quantity of weight-loss drugs were found hidden under the passenger seats, inside the restroom, and in other hard-to-reach areas.

This shipment alone was valued at approximately R$ 700,000.

No one was arrested during the operations.

Combined, the two seizures represent approximately R$ 1.5 million in foreign goods transported illegally.

Despite the quantity of products found, no one was arrested during the operations.

The buses and the goods were subject to the legal and administrative procedures of the Federal Revenue Service.

The inspections are part of Operation Integrated Border, which brings together public safety and enforcement agencies to combat smuggling and illicit trade in the border region.
