Customs Seizes R$ 2 Million in Goods in Downtown Fortaleza
A Customs inspection of five establishments in downtown Fortaleza resulted in the seizure of 416 bags of illegal goods

Customs seized approximately R$ 2 million worth of goods suspected of being counterfeit or smuggled during an operation carried out on the morning of Tuesday, the 6th, at five commercial establishments in downtown Fortaleza. The operation also involved the Ceará Military Police Riot Squad (BPChoque).
The operation, codenamed “Mimetismo,” was conducted by Customs Surveillance and Enforcement Division in the 3rd Tax Region.
In total, 416 raffia bags containing products that, according to the agency, showed signs of irregularities were seized.
Merchandise
According to Customs, the estimated value of the seized products is approximately R$ 2 million. The merchandise was found in the five establishments inspected during the operation, which took place in the capital’s downtown area.
Counterfeiting involves the sale of products that reproduce the brands or characteristics of original goods without authorization. Smuggling, on the other hand, occurs when products are brought into the country without paying the applicable taxes, when such taxes are due.
Inspection and Risks
According to Customs, the inspection aims to remove non-compliant products from the market and verify compliance with import and sales regulations.
The agency also states that goods sold outside official control mechanisms may pose risks to consumers, especially when they do not undergo the inspection and regulatory procedures applicable to certain products.
Seized items will be subject to the Customs administrative procedures for analysis and determination of appropriate measures.
