Enforcement activities – Federal Police launch Operation Fake Tour against alcohol smuggling on the border with Uruguay
On Tuesday (30), the Federal Police launched Operation Fake Tour, aiming to dismantle a criminal group that operated on the border between Brazil and Uruguay, smuggling alcoholic beverages into the country.
Seventeen search and seizure warrants and 21 precautionary measures other than arrest were executed in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná, in addition to the freezing of bank accounts and the freezing of assets of those under investigation.
According to investigations, the scheme consisted of using fake tourist excursions, which departed from Santa Catarina toward the borders, to smuggle beverages from Uruguayan duty-free shops to importers in Brazil.
The objective of the operation is to combat criminal activity, protect merchants who operate within the law, safeguard jobs, and curb unfair competition.
