Enforcement activities – Joint operation seizes more than R$26 million in illegal goods and vehicles
A joint operation involving the Federal Revenue Service, Defron (Police Department Specialized in Repressing Border Crimes), DOF (Department of Border Operations) and PRF (Federal Highway Police) resulted in the seizure of more than R$26 million in illegal goods and vehicles used by criminals in the border region of Mato Grosso do Sul.
The action took place between July 6 and 10, on highways that cut through the municipalities of Dourados, Mundo Novo and Ponta Porã.
The balance of Operation Border MS shows that around R$24.5 million in smuggled goods were seized, as well as 44 vehicles valued at approximately R$1.7 million. The vehicles, including passenger cars, vans and trucks, were used by criminal organizations specializing in smuggling and trafficking.
Among the items seized, according to Dourados News, one of the main highlights was a load of 225,000 packets of smuggled cigarettes, worth an estimated R$1.4 million. The products were in adapted vehicles, where all the seats are removed, with the exception of the driver’s seat, to increase transportation space.
Also confiscated were electronic cigarettes, perfumes, cell phones, electronics, clothes, tires, backpacks, cosmetics and even drones and toys. The materials will be sent to Federal Revenue warehouses and, according to the law, part will be destroyed, auctioned or donated to philanthropic organizations.
The operation mobilized 72 agents from the security forces, as well as two sniffer dogs from the Federal Revenue Service. The General Investigations Sector of the Dourados Civil Police also provided support.
