Enforcement activities – MPs seize smuggled goods in action in rural Nova Itamarati
During preventive patrols in the rural area of the Nova Itamarati district, on the banks of the MS-164 highway, the Military Police seized goods from Paraguay, constituting the crime of embezzlement.
The action began when a white VW Parati vehicle with tinted windows sped past the police vehicle, raising the team’s suspicions. Faced with the situation, the officers began a tactical pursuit. Even though the car’s headlights illuminated the interior of the vehicle, it was not possible to clearly see what was inside.
Upon approach, the soldiers identified two large packages on the back seat. The driver of the car said he was transporting two bales of teddy bears and two packages of collectors’ dolls, purchased in the neighboring country without the proper customs documentation. He also stated that he would receive the sum of R$1,500.00 to carry the freight to São Paulo (SP), claiming not to be the owner of the cargo.
Two packages containing teddy bear carcasses, two boxes of miniature dolls and two other boxes containing various packages were found.
The case was then reported to the higher echelon, which was instructed to adopt standard procedures, with the goods and the vehicle being sent to the Federal Revenue Service, as scheduled.
