MS Procon and Decon trained to identify counterfeits
Teams from Procon Mato Grosso do Sul and Decon (Specialized Police Station for Repression of Crimes Against Consumer Relations) took part in a workshop on Tuesday (4) to identify counterfeit products from various brands.
Lawyers from BPG (Brand Protection Group), a non-profit organization that fights the illegal market in the country, Marcelo Toledo de Camargo and Fernando Bononni stressed that details make the difference when it comes to differentiating between original and fake items.
“It’s unlikely that a product from a big company or brand will have any flaws, while a counterfeit product will often have flaws in the finish, stitching, embroidery or gluing,” said Marcelo, highlighting the health risks posed by fake items.
“They can cause injury to the consumer who runs and plays sport with counterfeit sneakers of no quality. T-shirts can have toxic ink in their composition”.

Integrated actions
The head of Decon, Reginaldo Salomão, believes that the training provides an opportunity to improve inter-institutional actions to control and repress crimes against consumer relations, as well as ensuring that consumers in the state have access to quality products.
Procon Superintendent Patrícia Mara da Silva explains that the Consumer Defense Code (CDC) guarantees consumers respect for dignity, health and safety. Thus, the inspectors from the institution linked to Sead (State Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights) have been working to curb any abuses that cause harm to the population.
“This training further qualifies and strengthens the work we already do.”
