PRF makes largest seizure of contraband in the country in 2026, in Goiás

The Federal Highway Police (PRF), in a joint operation with the Border Operations Command (COD) of the Goiás Military Police, carried out on Tuesday (3) the largest seizure of contraband and smuggled goods recorded in Brazil in 2026. The incident was reported in the municipality of Jataí, in southwestern Goiás.
During the inspection of a box truck, agents found thousands of illegal products hidden under an apparently regular load. According to preliminary information, the merchandise had left Amazonas and was destined for shopping centers in the state of São Paulo.
Among the items seized are high-value imported perfumes, French medicines, and other products whose sale is prohibited or restricted in Brazil. Initial investigations indicate that the materials entered the country via clandestine routes on the borders with Venezuela, Colombia, and Guyana.
During the inspection, the person responsible for the cargo attempted to bribe the agents, offering R$ 150,000 for the vehicle to be released. In view of this attempt, he was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crimes of active corruption, smuggling, and embezzlement.
After confirming the illegality, the Federal Revenue Service was called in and took over the administrative and tax procedures, becoming responsible for the custody of the goods and the seized vehicle. The estimated loss to organized crime is approximately R$ 25.5 million.
