Police arrest four people for selling fake glasses and seize 5 tons of products
four people were arrested for selling fake eyeglass frames and sunglasses in the center of Caruaru on Thursday (6). The action was carried out by the Civil Police of Pernambuco, through the Police Station for the Repression of Crimes Against Consumers (Decon).
According to the Civil Police, the inspections were carried out in four commercial establishments that were promoting the sale of fake products from famous brands.
During the operation, the police seized 262 volumes of counterfeit products, which weighed around five tons. The four people arrested were taken to the police station for crimes against consumer relations and notices of arrest in flagrante delicto were drawn up for each of them.
They were subsequently released on bail.
Article 66 of the Consumer Defense Code stipulates that a trader who “makes a false or misleading statement, or omits relevant information about the nature, characteristics, quality, quantity, safety, performance, durability, price or guarantee of products or services” can face imprisonment from three months to one year and a fine.
