Itajaí Port Customs seizes more 72 tons of counterfeit goods

The products were declared as charcoal. The estimated total value is R$ 58 million.

In a new operation, the Customs of the Federal Revenue in the Port of Itajaí seized, last Tuesday (26), three containers coming from China with 72 tons of counterfeit products. Three import declarations were registered by the importing company informing that the load was charcoal for use in hookahs.

Monitored by the Customs Risk Management Team, the three cargoes were blocked and the opening of the containers determined for the physical verification, confirming the suspicions of false declaration of content. In fact, there were footwear, watches, glasses, clothes and bags of recognized brands, probably counterfeited, that would supply the markets through Brazil.

A large amount of products were made up of uniforms of the selections participating in the World Cup, especially brazilian team. The seizures will be formalized with the recording of infractions notices and application of the penalty of loss for the irregularities. Tax representation for criminal purposes against those responsible for importation will be forwarded to the Federal Public Ministry.

It is estimated that the total value of goods is $ 15 million, which corresponds to R$ 58 million.
