Enforcement activities – Operation seizes more than 5 tons of counterfeit products

During the launch of Operation Nemesis on Tuesday (24), the Civil Police seized more than 5 tons of counterfeit clothing, accessories and sports equipment in Canoas and Alvorada. The action was triggered by the Police Station for the Protection of Consumer Rights, Public Health and Intellectual, Intangible and Related Property (Decon), which aims to investigate crimes against consumer relations and against the General Sports Law.

Two people were arrested as part of the operation, which is permanent and focused on dismantling criminal organizations involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit products, especially items that put the population’s health at risk and compromise the balance of free competition. The material seized on Tuesday is valued at around R$2 million.

Delegate Milena Simioli, head of Decon, points out that the main aim of the investigations is to protect essential legal assets, such as public health and consumer rights, as well as combating unfair competition and illicit enrichment. “We are facing a clandestine market that not only drains millions from the formal economy, but also poses risks to the population. By purchasing a counterfeit product, consumers are deceived and exposed to risks, while at the same time feeding a cycle of illegality that needs to be broken,” she said.
