Enforcement activities – Operation results in seizure of R$2.5 million in illegal goods in the northwest of the state

A truck carrying approximately R$2.5 million in goods without an invoice was intercepted and its cargo seized during a routine inspection on Saturday morning (24), by agents from the Civil House State Secretariat’s Operação Foco Divisas program, at the Timbó Tax Control Post in Itaperuna, in the northwest of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The cargo, which originated in São Paulo and was on its way to various cities in Espírito Santo, included a variety of products, such as cigarettes, clothing materials, cell phones, electronics and alcoholic beverages, including whiskeys and wines. Much of the merchandise was stored in cardboard boxes, with clothing descriptions, but no tax documentation to justify their legality.

During the approach, the driver presented at least three invoices that did not match the cargo being transported, which prompted a more detailed inspection by the team. The action resulted in the seizure of all the merchandise, which was taken to the Mato Verde Tax Control Post in Campos dos Goytacazes, where it remains detained for legal proceedings.

According to the Special Undersecretary for Border Control and Civil Police Delegate, João Valentim, the seizure reinforces the success of enforcement actions on state borders.
