Enforcement activities – Military Police seize contraband and smuggled goods in Nova Itamarati
On Saturday morning (September 20), around 9 a.m., the Military Police seized a shipment of goods from Paraguay without legal documentation in the urban center of Nova Itamarati, in the district of Ponta Porã, Mato Grosso do Sul.
According to the police report, the team from the 2nd Military Police Battalion of Nova Itamarati was returning to the district when they spotted vehicles performing sudden maneuvers in the area. A white Chevrolet Classic with license plates from Parnaíba, Piauí, caught their attention because it had dark tinted windows and dents on the side, which made it difficult to see inside.
During the stop, the driver admitted to transporting goods purchased in the neighboring country to Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. Inside the car, various goods were found scattered across the back seats, floor, and trunk, including beverages, electronic cigarettes and accessories, perfumes, and scales.
The location is known for being a route for cross-border crime, which reinforced the suspicion. The incident was reported to the Itamarati Military Police Station for verification of the items. After contacting the Federal Police, the recommendation was to send the vehicle and the seized products to the Federal Revenue Service.
