Enforcement activities – Highway police seize R$20 million in goods without invoices in Marília

Last Friday (18), the Highway Police carried out one of the biggest seizures of the year of goods transported without invoices in the Marília region, in the interior of São Paulo. During an inspection on the Comandante João Ribeiro de Barros highway (SP-294), at km 460, officers approached a truck loaded with illegally imported products, estimated to be worth R$20 million.

According to official information, the vehicle, a blue Mercedes-Benz truck with license plates from Itupeva (SP), was driven by a lone driver who did not present any tax documents or proof of the origin of the products. The cargo consisted mainly of electronics, perfumery items, watches and glasses, many of which had high added value and came from Paraguay.

The absence of documentation characterizes the crime of embezzlement and tax evasion. After the irregularities were discovered, both the truck and all the cargo were seized and sent to the Federal Police Station in Marília. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, but released after posting bail, while the material remains under investigation.

The Military Highway Police said in a statement that the seizure was the result of intensified inspection operations on highways in the interior of São Paulo, with the aim of combating the trafficking of foreign goods without tax regularization. According to the authorities, illicit trade harms local entrepreneurs and generates large tax evasion.
