Enforcement activities – Federal Revenue Service carries out anti-piracy operation in shopping mall inside Aparecida Basilica

The Federal Revenue Service is carrying out Operation Illegal Market in Aparecida on Wednesday (14th). More than R$850,000 in goods are expected to be seized.

The action is taking place in stores in a shopping center aimed at tourists in the city. According to the Internal Revenue Service, imported and counterfeit products from famous brands are sold there, as well as electronic cigarettes and electronics.

The Revenue Department estimates that more than 400 packages of counterfeit goods will be seized – mostly clothing and footwear.

In a statement, the National Sanctuary of Aparecida said that the action was a one-off and that it acts “solely as a landlord of the physical space” and that it keeps the shopkeepers in a strictly administrative area.

In addition, the Shrine emphasized in the statement that “Each shopkeeper is entirely responsible for complying with legal and regulatory obligations at the municipal, state and federal levels.”
