Enforcement activities – Federal Police raid fake cosmetics factory in Cascavel
On Thursday morning (September 18th), the Federal Police carried out Operation Falsa Marca (False Brand) with the aim of dismantling a scheme involving the counterfeiting of cosmetics and hygiene products intended for both the domestic market and export. The operation also aims to combat the concealment and dissimulation of funds obtained through criminal activity.
The investigations, which began in 2023, identified a group that, since at least 2018, had been producing and selling shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks bearing false indications of a well-known brand. Initially, the products were exported to Paraguay. From 2022 onwards, sales expanded to digital platforms, broadening the scope of the scheme.
The group used fictitious companies to purchase inputs, issue ideologically false invoices, and distribute products with adulterated brands. The fraudulent structure allowed the products to circulate in both the domestic and international markets, increasing the potential damage to the economy and consumer health.
In Thursday’s operation, federal police officers, with the support of the Federal Revenue Service and the Health Surveillance Agency, executed five search and seizure warrants in the city of Cascavel, Paraná. The 4th Federal Court also ordered the seizure of properties linked to those under investigation, as well as the freezing of funds and financial assets.
Those involved will be charged with crimes such as criminal association, smuggling, and money laundering, which carry penalties of up to 15 years in prison.
In a statement, the Federal Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating counterfeiting, piracy, and crimes that affect the economy and the health of the population.
