Enforcement activities – BPFRON and PF seize boat with R$5 million in contraband on the border
On Wednesday (02), a joint action between the Border Police Battalion (BPFRON) of the Paraná Military Police and Federal Police agents from the Special Maritime Police Center (NEPOM/PF) resulted in the seizure of a boat loaded with contraband on the Paraná River in Guaíra, a border region with Paraguay.
The seizure took place as part of Operation Border Protector, during routine river patrols. The agents spotted a suspicious-looking boat on the banks of the river. When they approached, they found that the boat was loaded with several packages of illicit goods.
After checking, 12 packages containing anabolic steroids and illegal medicines were seized, as well as 1,500 packs of cigarettes smuggled from Paraguay.
Searches were carried out in the region to try and locate the person responsible for the vessel and the goods, but no one was found in the vicinity. The vessel and the seized goods were sent to the Federal Police Station in Guaíra, where the appropriate legal measures were taken.
The estimated loss to organized crime from the seizure is R$5 million, according to the Military Police.
The operation reinforces the ongoing work of the security forces to crack down on smuggling and trafficking of illegal products on the state’s border strip.
