More than 200 counterfeit and expired alcoholic beverages seized at more than ten establishments in Florianópolis
A joint operation inspected businesses in the capital to combat the sale of adulterated and expired products
The Florianópolis Municipal Procon seized more than 200 bottles of beverages unfit for consumption, including counterfeit products and beverages past their expiration dates.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday (21) and Thursday (22) in a joint effort with the Florianópolis Municipal Guard and the Brazilian Beverage Association, inspected 12 establishments with the goal of combating the sale of non-compliant beverages, protecting public health, and preventing products without guaranteed origin and safety from reaching consumers’ tables.
“Products that can put lives at risk,” says Procon director
Among the irregularities identified, the presence of counterfeit beverages raised red flags for Procon, as the sale of non-compliant products can endanger the health of those who consume them.
“We’re not just talking about commercial irregularities. We’re talking about products that can put lives at risk. Consumers have the right to know what they are buying and, above all, to be assured that what they consume does not pose a threat to their health. Procon in Florianópolis will not tolerate practices that endanger the public,” emphasizes Tiago Silva Mussi, director of the Florianópolis Municipal Procon.
The Florianópolis Municipal Procon emphasizes that the Consumer Protection Code prohibits the sale of products unfit for use or consumption, as established in Article 18, Paragraph 6, of Federal Law No. 8,078/1990. The agency will continue to step up its enforcement efforts, reaffirming its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring public safety.
