Fighting piracy: Nearly one million counterfeit soccer jerseys have been seized in recent months

The Federal Revenue Service has already seized nearly one million counterfeit soccer jerseys in operations and seizures carried out in recent months. Data released by the Federal Revenue Service show the preliminary tally, including four major seizures recorded in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Roraima.
In total, more than 965,500 jerseys were seized during operations at the Port of Santos (SP), ports in Rio de Janeiro, Galeão Airport (RJ), and the Boa Vista highway (RR).

Port of Santos – 428,000 shirts (seizures from the last three months)
Ports of Rio de Janeiro – 285,000 shirts (three operations)
Roraima – more than 500 shirts (action against a carrier)

ECONOMIC LOSS
The nearly one million seized shirts have a market value of approximately R$ 50 million, according to tax authorities. Consequently, this represents tax evasion of nearly R$ 39 million.
SEIZED SHIRTS
According to the agency, among the seized shirts were those of the national teams of Brazil, Canada, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Germany, and Japan, as well as Brazilian clubs such as Santos, Botafogo, Portuguesa, Flamengo, and Atlético Mineiro.
