Enforcement activities – More than 7,000 counterfeit perfumes seized in the Federal District on Wednesday
The Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF), together with Procon-DF, launched Operation Nefertem on Wednesday morning (4), aimed at combating the sale of counterfeit perfumes in a chain of drugstores that has 27 units throughout the capital. The offensive carried out 11 search and seizure warrants.
The main target of the operation were fragrances that illegally imitated recognized international brands, violating rights protected by law. Even after two previous inspections by Procon-DF, the establishments continued to offer the irregular products to consumers.
In addition to the drugstores, a cosmetics distributor located in Taguatinga was also searched, as it was identified as the supplier of the counterfeit perfumes that supplied the trade in the Federal District. During the raid, agents seized more than 7,000 bottles of counterfeit perfumes.
One person was arrested red-handed for the crimes of misuse of a trademark, unfair competition and infringement of consumer relations. Those being investigated could also face charges of qualified reception, criminal association, money laundering and, if it is proven that the products pose a risk to health, also the crime provided for in article 273, §1º-A of the Penal Code, which deals with the counterfeiting of medicinal and related products.
In addition to the drugstores, a cosmetics distributor located in Taguatinga was also searched, as it was identified as the supplier of the counterfeit perfumes that supplied the trade in the Federal District. During the raid, agents seized more than 7,000 bottles of counterfeit perfumes.
According to the PCDF, the operation represents an advance in the fight against the illegal market and is part of the institutional policy to combat piracy, unfair competition and crimes against industrial property. In addition to harming legitimate companies, the sale of counterfeit products compromises free competition, causes damage to consumers and causes economic losses for the state.
