14 thousand bottles of counterfeit beers are found in shed in Chacaras Reunidas neighbourhood
Your beer in São José has a different taste? On Thursday (23) afternoon, the Civil Police, through Deic (Criminal Investigations Police Station), dismantled a scheme of counterfeiting beer in a warehouse located in the neighborhood Chacaras Reunidas. Around 14,000 bottles of counterfeit beers from four different brands were found at the site.
According to police information, the investigation lasted about 15 days and was initiated after a report. Initially, the police suspected that the warehouse was used for dismantling trucks or receiving stolen cargo, but when they raided it, the police were surprised by the bottles of counterfeit beer.
Four people were arrested and taken to the police station to give their statements. According to information from those involved, they worked at the site for a year and bought the beers for BRL 1.00 from a brand from Espírito Santo.
The investigated persons carried out the adulteration of the products in São José dos Campos and sold the beers in markets in the Vale do Paraíba. The police have not yet disclosed the number of counterfeit beers that were sold.
The case will continue to be investigated by the 1st General Investigations Police Station and the São José dos Campos Deic. The police warn the population to be aware when buying beer from unreliable commercial establishments, in order to avoid buying counterfeit products that can offer health risks.
