“Operation Vaper” Federal Police seizes electronic cigarettes in São Paulo

Federal Police agents conduct seven search and seizure warrants in the central and eastern regions of São Paulo.

The Federal Police initiated on Tuesday morning (24/5) Operation Vaper, to combat electronic cigarette smuggling. Agents are serving seven search and seizure warrants in the central and eastern regions of São Paulo.

Warehouses and shops that sell or stock large quantities of electronic cigarettes, refills and accessories are the targets of the investigation.

The suspects may be held liable for the crimes of selling substances that are harmful to health and smuggling.

The penalty for selling electronic cigarettes is between one and three years in prison. Smugglers, on the other hand, may have to be imprisoned for one to four years and pay a fine.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) prohibits in Brazil the import, sale and advertising of electronic smoking devices, accessories and refills.
